Radharc na Mara Primary School is a newly amalgamated school in Mervue, Galway. Our school has lots of yard space and green areas filled with native Irish trees and beautiful flowers. We are lucky to have Ballyloughane beach, Lough Atalia and Merlin Woods on our doorstep. The children love getting active outdoors and learning about the environment around them. Our school has eight green flags for our whole school action on looking after the environment. Some of the activities we do outdoors in our school are: litter picking, recycling, energy saving, clean up of the local area, trips to Ballyloughane to learn about marine environments, nature walks in Merlin Woods and the local park, the daily mile – looking at nature, art using nature – leaf people/nature faces/signs/collages/rock painting/leaf rubbings, planting flowers, bird identification, flower ID, tree ID in the school grounds – ash, sycamore, maple, feeding the birds in Winter, World Earth day/Ocean Day, mini-beast hunts, scavenger hunts, picnics, maths trails, poetry/descriptive writing, projects on local history, projects on various environmental issues, play works, yoga/meditation outdoors and many more.
