Rory Monaghan – The Energy Systems Engineer
Dr Rory Monaghan is the Director of the Energy Systems Engineering Programme at NUI Galway. He is the Lead Investigator in the Energy Research Centre in the NUI Galway Ryan Institute and a Funded Investigator in MaREI, the Science Foundation Ireland Centre for Energy, Climate and Marine Research. He leads a research team that studies the decarbonisation of hard-to-abate sectors with technologies like green hydrogen, sustainable bioenergy, renewable fuels, and carbon capture utilisation and storage, in projects with partners from around Europe and the world. Aside from his time as a postgraduate student in the United States, Rory has spent most of his life in Galway and Conamara, which he thinks is already the best place in the world to live. He hopes Galway National Park City will make it even better! Rory holds a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from NUI Galway, and Masters and PhD degrees, also in Mechanical Engineering, from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
