The Marine Institute’s Explorers Education Programme engages with primary schools, teachers, children and the education network in introducing and inspiring the adoption of marine themes into the primary school curriculum. Over 12,000 children and 500 teachers are benefiting from this project.
The programme, managed by the Camden Education Trust and coordinated by Cushla Dromgool-Regan (a Galway National Park City champion), offers a range of modules for primary school students and teachers in the classroom, through blended learning as well as out-door education. Check out their modules including marine projects, seashores safaris, aquariums in the class, and taking part in a number of exciting marine workshops.
Each of its Wild about Wildlife films provides learning ques introducing the animals’ names in English and Irish, new words about the seashore habitat and the animals’ features. The films include a ‘What I have learned today’ summary that teachers and children may use to discuss what fun facts they have discovered. The Explorers team also provide some suggestions for cross curricular activities that can be completed after watching the film. Have fun and #KeepExploring!
